Dynamizing the Capacities of Networks and IT infrastructures

Next step is converged virtualization!

Converged virtualization = combined [network + IT] virtualization.

Converged virtualization is the only way to provide Infrastructure, extended to the network, as a Service

Benefits:

• Simplification of Operations

• Control of Response Time

• Guaranteed Geolocalization

• Global Elasticity

Virtual

Key concept: Virtual Infrastructure

• An organized interconnection of capacities: virtualized computing equipments (computers, storage servers, data-acquisition devices) combined with virtualized communication resources (switches, routers), all interconnected by dedicated virtual links.
• Rented temporarily and configured specifically for a user or a group of users.
When the virtual infrastructure is allocated, the user gets full control over it and can deploy and enjoy any software and protocol within it. When the virtual infrastructure's reservation expires, the virtual resources are released and the corresponding capacity returns to the common pool of available physical resources.

VXDL: Virtual-Infrastructure Description Language

Lyatiss and INRIA have defined the innovative virtual infrastructure description language: VXDL

VXDL allows, using an extended XML format, expressing the characteristics and constraints of a virtual infrastructure request regarding:
• Geolocalization
• Security
• Performance

VXDL proposes canvases for typical infrastructures which describe the reservation’s date and duration, the geolocalization, the number and power of virtual machines, the bandwidth and the interconnection of the resources requested from the provider.

The formal description of the characteristics and constraints allows the Lyatiss resource allocator to optimize the selection of the target machines while conforming to the client’s wishes.

Graphical tools allow manipulating this language in a very intuitive way in order to create and modify the resource graph.

A top-down approach: from user needs to infrastructure constraints

Lyatiss is a precursor in this domain and proposes a unique model based on Virtual Infrastructure concept and VXDL, which enable operators to offer services with a guaranteed quality of service.
The top priorities of Lyatiss technology are:
• the user’s needs
• the network integration
Lyatiss allows a personalized and elastic interconnection between virtual machines and all the other virtualized equipments in order to accurately and optimally serve the users' requests.
